| Pyewacket came to us in October almost 18 years ago. She
was a stray that showed up where my husband worked. We aren't sure how old
she was but she wasn't a tiny kitten, most likely she was about 5 months
old. She was very friendly and started hanging out with Carl and would lay
on his shoulders and purr in his ear. He was afraid something would happen
to her, as where he worked they repaired cars and the other guys there
weren't as cat friendly as he was. It was also on a main road and the
traffic was heavy. So, on Halloween he decided to bring her home until we
found her owners. Needless to say they were never found! I named her
Pyewacket from the movie Bell Book and Candle. She had two nicknames "The Paw" and "Chicken Hawk." She adored chicken and would take it off your plate if you weren't looking. One of the funniest things she used to do was spear cat food one claw at a time while laying beside the food dish. Her paw was also loud. If she was irritated at the other cats she would smack them on top of the head and you could hear it across the room. She was the sweetest cat I've ever known. She adored people and any person entering her house was a new person to pet her. She had a "broken" purr. It was very high pitched and singsongy. There was no mistaking which cat she was in the dark! The vet once marveled at how sweet she was. She would be rubbing against them as they gave her shots! She rarely meowed and when she did it was a very sweet little meow. Very polite. She only went outside in the backyard occasionally and always with supervision. The last weekend before she died she took a fascination with the fish pond and we sat beside it together for hours. She was getting slower in the last couple years, and in particular that last day she had outside she seemed very fragile. She sat and the breeze blowing made her sway and I had a bad feeling. I took her to the doctor the next day and they did all their tests and said she had a tumor. It was amazing how sick she became in such a short time. In less than a week she was gone. She was the sweetest cat I've even had. She comforted me when I was sad or sick. I tried to always be there for her when she needed me. We will always love her and miss her. ~ Regina (CatsDancing) |
